The shade Kawasaki 2 is an intense sunny yellow, which resembles a dandelion flower in its colour. It will work perfectly solo, but also as a contrasting decoration in combination with another colour.
Kawasaki is one of Japan’s somewhat hidden gems. Tourists primarily associate it with the festival of Kanamara Matsuri – an annual festival in honour of the god Kanayama-hiko and goddess Kanayama-hime. Shinto followers believe that this divine pair ensures fertility and happiness in marriage and family. During the festival, the city’s streets are filled with crowds of colourfully dressed people (often in traditional kimonos and yukatas) carrying statues and portable shrines, and there are plenty of stalls selling local snacks and souvenirs. Kanamara Matsuri is a joyous celebration of human sexuality that may surprise Europeans accustomed to Japanese restraint. Kawasaki is also home to the beautiful Daishi Temple, open-air museums and the Ikuta Ryokuchi Park, which delights with its intense colours all year round – from the sakura cherry blossoms in spring to Japan’s famous red maples.
It is this joy, openness and explosion of colour that inspired our latest collection. Palu Kawasaki is 6 vibrant, neon shades that are the essence of a summer manicure. Fresh orange, sunny yellow, grassy green, deep cobalt, energetic violet and intense pink look wonderful not only separately, but also combined together – both on adjacent nails and as part of a single decoration.
And what could be a more fitting embellishment for a Japanese nenon collection than Yayoi Kusama-style dots? Kusama, nicknamed “the princess of dots”, is one of the most important figures in the world of Japanese contemporary art and activism. She is known for her colourful spatial installations, somewhat reminiscent of the pop art style. Her work can be found not only in museums but also in boutiques, as the artist is credited with a collaboration with Louis Vuitton. Different coloured dots, made with a probe that ends in a ball, are the perfect choice for fans of vivid contrasts and geometry, but also for those looking for a quick and striking styling idea!
